PICTURES OF THE REUNION: HOW YOU CAN GET YOUR OWN SET

The professional photographer gave us 425 sharp, nice-looking photographs that he took on Friday and Saturday nights at our 50th Reunion.  We have created CDs for each person who came to any of the events, and they will be sent out by U. S. Mail during the week of July 11-17.

The CD is also available to those who were unable to attend.  If this group includes you, please check your email for instructions about how you can order your CD.

There is also a DVD which contains the pictures in a slideshow, accompanied by music from the 1950s and 1960s.  The email will explain how to order these DVDs, which allow you to show the slide show on your TV.

THE FLEMING BANNER

Not only was Frank Young able to get three billboards for us in the north Roanoke area, but he also had this banner shipped in for the reunion.  It measured approximately 5' X 10' and was hung on the wall behind the podium for Saturday night's dinnner/dance.

Later in the program, the banner was auctioned off for $50., which will go to the class to help pay its reunion bills.

A SLEEPY-EYED SUNDAY MORNING BREAKFAST

 After a late night of celebration, dinner, dancing, and socializing, about 10-12 of our classmates actually got up at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning for a Farewell Breakfast together at the Holiday Inn restaurant.  Bonnie Hess Elek just sent us this photo, showing (L to R) Mary Ann Richards Muddiman, Joan Teass Robbins, and Susan Lowe Hall.  Lurking in the background is Larry Arrington.

A TRIP DOWNTOWN

About a dozen of our classmates went on a trip to downtown Roanoke on Saturday morning.  Everyone toured the new and ultra-modern Taubman Museum.  Some then walked through the old-fashioned city market, while others ate lunch in the market area.

MY POOR COMPUTER . . . .

My almost-new laptop is out of commission right now.  I had to go back and resurrect my old clunker.  So the photos from the reunion are not going online as quickly as possible. 

But I thought you might like to see this photo that was sent to us by Bonnie Hess Elek.  It shows the crowd gathering for the Friday night cookout at the Holiday Inn.

THREE GIANT BILLBOARDS SHOWED THE ROANOKE VALLEY THAT WE WERE HAVING OUR REUNION

We received a call from classmate Frank Young a few weeks ago, saying that he had the opportunity to put up three billboards in the north Roanoke area, each calling attention to our 50th reunion.  Frank is with an advertising agency in West Virginia and has connections with outdoor advertising companies in Roanoke.

As it turned out, he was able to get us billboards placed (1) on Orange Avenue, (2) in an area very close to the Holiday Inn where the reunion was held, and (3) near Boxley Hill on north Williamson Road.  Thanks for your work, Frank.

AND THEN . . . THERE WAS THE SUNSET

As the Virginia Dare neared the half-way point of the cruise, classmates looked out over Smith Mountain Lake to take in the beauty of the sunset.

Ida Jane Elswick chose to sit on the upper deck throughout the cruise, along with about 25 additional members of the class.

SOME CLASSMATES CHOSE THE UPPER DECK FOR THE CRUISE

Once we boarded the Virginia Dare, we could either go unpstairs into an open area or downstairs, where there was an enclosed, cooler space.  In either case, we could sit and talk throughout the cruise.  Here, classmates Judy Bower (L) and Bonnie Hess Elek share their memories on the upper deck.
